Ause Abdelhaq Joins August Books as Senior Commissioning Editor

Effective May 6th, Ause Abdelhaq will enhance the team at August Books as their new senior commissioning editor. This renowned imprint, which is part of Canelo, aims to develop a diverse array of non-fiction works spanning various genres, including sport, reportage, true crime, and puzzles and games.

Career Background

Prior to this role, Abdelhaq has been making strides as a commissioning editor at Macmillan for the past two years. At Macmillan, he has overseen significant publications within both the Macmillan Business and Pan Non-Fiction sectors. His portfolio features high-profile titles such as:

  • Unbroken by Olympian Katarina Johnson-Thompson
  • The Eyes of Gaza by journalist Plestia Alaqad
  • The Curious Case of Mike Lynch by tech writer Katie Prescott

Abdelhaq’s impressive track record includes the acquisition of Supremacy by Parmy Olson, a gripping narrative on the foundations of artificial intelligence that earned the FT and Schroders Business Book of the Year award in 2024. In addition, he received notable recognition as one of the first winners of the Society of Young Publishers’ First Chapter prize and was shortlisted for the FutureBook Future Leader of the Year award in 2024.

August Books, which specializes in narrative non-fiction, launched in May 2024 and is headed by a dynamic team, including Martina O’Sullivan and Hannah Taylor. Under Abdelhaq’s guidance, the imprint looks to cultivate a rich tapestry of non-fiction titles. Upcoming releases include:
