BookBar Expands to Chelsea: A New Chapter in Independent Bookstore Culture
New Location Announcement
Independent bookstore and community hub BookBar is set to open its second location in Chelsea, London, located at 3B Chelsea Manor Street, just off the bustling King’s Road. The launch of the new branch is planned for Spring 2025 and will serve as BookBar’s flagship events venue.
Development Overview
This new site is part of a broader initiative by property manager and developer Cadogan, who is transforming the area around The Gaumont on King’s Road into a vibrant “Creative Quarter.” This development will feature a mix of retail options, a cinema, a rooftop restaurant, a pub theatre, and various independent arts businesses.
BookBar’s Journey
Founded during the pandemic in April 2021, BookBar has experienced remarkable growth in just four years. From an initial team of two, the shop has expanded to a workforce of seven. BookBar has also been recognized as a finalist for London’s Independent Bookshop of the Year on three occasions, demonstrating its impact in the local community.
In addition to its successful retail operations, BookBar has hosted high-profile events and launched an expanding subscription book club, building a loyal community of literature, wine, and coffee enthusiasts.
Looking Forward
“BookBar has grown from strength to strength since we opened during the pandemic in April 2021,” said Chrissy Ryan, founder of BookBar. “As a business, we feel ready to take the next step, and I cannot wait to bring our passion for celebrating the social side of reading to Chelsea and contributing to its thriving cultural scene.”
