Nominees Announced for the 2025 Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards
The Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards has revealed its shortlist for the 2025 edition, marking the event’s 23rd year. Among the nominees are celebrated athletes Chris Hoy and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who have both made significant contributions to sports literature.
A Celebration of Sports Writing
The awards ceremony is set to take place on May 1st at the Kia Oval in south London, with ITV Sports presenter Mark Pougatch serving as the host. Pougatch expressed his anticipation for the event, stating, “As ever, it’s a wonderful shortlist for 2025, and I’m really looking forward to hosting the awards again. It’s also been a real pleasure to be part of the judging panel for the Best Sports Writing category.”
Categories and Public Participation
This year, the public is encouraged to participate in voting for three specific categories:
- Charles Tyrwhitt Autobiography of the Year
- Sports Entertainment Book of the Year
- Sports Performance Book of the Year
Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who secured a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, commented on her nomination for Best Autobiography, saying, “It is an honour to be shortlisted for Best Autobiography at the Sports Book Awards 2025 alongside so many great personalities. Writing this book was a deeply personal journey; reflecting on the highs, lows, and everything in between.”
Notable Nominees
In addition to Johnson-Thompson and Hoy, cricket standout Jimmy Anderson is also recognized in the Best Autobiography category. Anderson expressed his gratitude, stating, “I’m delighted to be nominated in the Best Autobiography category alongside some real sporting greats, and I would like to thank [co-author] Felix White, my family and my friends for helping to make my journey so unforgettable and my book such a success.”
Other notable nominees across various categories include:
- Trevor McDonald – Journalist
- Mike Tindall – Rugby star
- Azeem Rafiq – Cricketer
- Jonnie Peacock – Olympic runner
- Russ Cook (aka “Hardest Geezer”) – YouTube presenter
Special Accolades and Judging Panel
This year’s ceremony will also honor Roddy Bloomfield, acclaimed for his contributions to British sports publishing, with a Special Lifetime Achievement Award. David Willis, chairman of the Sports Book Awards, remarked, “We are thrilled to be announcing the exceptional winners for 2025 at the Kia Oval and are particularly delighted to present a Special Lifetime Achievement Award to Roddy Bloomfield. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to him on this well-deserved recognition from everyone at the Sports Book Awards.”
The awards will be judged by a distinguished panel, including Olympic Gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu, Match of the Day host Mark Chapman, songwriter Tim Rice, actor and comedian Miles Jupp, and footballer Scott Minto.
