Cornerstone’s deputy marketing director Claire Bush is joining Pan in the newly-created role of communications director for marketing.

Bush will join in March and lead Pan’s marketing strategy, developing a strategic vision that aligns with Pan’s ambitious growth plans. She will lead an award-winning marketing team to deliver stand out campaigns for authors across Pan’s five imprints – Pan, Macmillan, Macmillan Business, Mantle and Tor – including global brands such as Danielle Steele, David Baldacci, Kristin Hannah, Ann Cleeves, Peter James,  VE Schwab, Olivie Blake and Kate Morton, as well as upcoming lead non-fiction including titles from Nicola Sturgeon and Tim Berners-Lee.

Bush will report directly to Pan managing director Lucy Hale, working alongside Poppy North who was recently promoted communications director for publicity. She will also join Pan Macmillan’s senior communications team, led by group communications director and global AI lead Sara Lloyd.

Bush has 13 years’ experience in publishing and, during her time at Penguin Random House, has spearheaded the brand strategy and campaign execution for some of Cornerstone and Michael Joseph’s most successful brand authors – Lisa Jewell, Harlan Coben, Taylor Jenkins Reid and Sebastian Faulks at Cornerstone, as well as Marian Keyes, Jojo Moyes, Stephen Fry and Dawn French at Michael Joseph.

Pan said: “Bush is also an expert in transatlantic launches, being part of the teams to execute global campaigns for some of the biggest and bestselling non-fiction, including Barbra Streisand’s My Name is Barbra, Bono’s Surrender and Will Smith’s Will.”

Bush said: “During my time at Penguin Random House, I’ve been fortunate to forge lifelong friendships, collaborate with exceptional authors and work alongside truly talented teams. I’ll miss everyone dearly, but the chance to join Pan Macmillan at such a pivotal moment, under the outstanding leadership of Lucy Hale and Joanna Prior, was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I’ve long admired the division’s exceptional publishing, and I’m excited to contribute to its next chapter and ongoing success. I can’t wait to get started.”

Hale said: “I am thrilled to welcome Claire as our new Pan Communications Director for Marketing. Her award-winning success, innovative mindset and extensive brand-building experience make her the ideal addition to the Pan team as we continue to grow. I look forward to working with her to lead our authors to even greater bestselling success.”
