Waterstones to Celebrate the Launch of ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’

In an exciting celebration of literature, Waterstones branches across the UK will host a series of special events to mark the release of Suzanne Collins’ newest addition to The Hunger Games franchise, titled Sunrise on the Reaping, published by Scholastic.

Midnight Launch Events Scheduled

The highlight of the celebrations will occur on the night of Monday, March 17, at Waterstones Piccadilly, where a unique bookshop lock-in will commence, allowing dedicated fans to be among the first to purchase the much-anticipated book. Events will kick off at 10 PM, featuring a variety of activities designed to immerse attendees in the Hunger Games universe.

Activities and Attractions

Those attending the Piccadilly launch can look forward to:

  • Exclusive themed decorations and window displays
  • Live performances featuring actors in cosplay
  • Face painting and interactive activities, such as indoor archery and axe throwing
  • Nail art and glitter tattoos
  • Special themed beverages
  • The Ultimate Hunger Games Quiz, complete with a sudden-death round
  • Exclusive swag bags for participants

Engaging Talks with Notable Authors

Additionally, Waterstones Piccadilly will host a virtual discussion with David Levithan, a long-time publisher for Collins. The event will also feature a panel discussion with several young adult authors, including:

  • Katherine Webber
  • Samantha Shannon
  • Bill Wood
  • Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé

This discussion will be chaired by prominent book vlogger Jack Edwards, known as ‘The Internet’s Librarian’, who will delve into the cultural significance of The Hunger Games series. Please be aware that Suzanne Collins will not be attending this event.

Other Branches Joining in the Festivities

In addition to Waterstones Piccadilly, other branches, including those in Milton Keynes and Leeds, will also participate in the midnight launch celebrations, providing fans across the country with a chance to join in the excitement and purchase their copies of Sunrise on the Reaping.
