Vintage to Close Square Peg Imprint by End of 2025
Penguin Random House’s UK division, Vintage, has announced the impending closure of its commercial non-fiction imprint, Square Peg, by the end of 2025. This decision comes alongside the departure of Publishing Director Marianne Tatepo, whose role at the imprint has been rendered redundant. Tatepo’s last day at Square Peg is scheduled for April 4, 2025.
Focus Shift to Broader Non-Fiction Portfolio
The strategic move to shut down Square Peg is aimed at enhancing the focus on non-fiction titles published across Vintage’s other imprints, which include The Bodley Head, Fern Press, Jonathan Cape, and Chatto & Windus. The publisher made this announcement as part of their plans to streamline operations and concentrate on delivering a wider array of non-fiction content.

Marianne Tatepo has been with Vintage as the head of Square Peg since January 2022 and has overseen several successful book launches during her tenure. Notable titles released under her watch include:

Reflections from Tatepo and Vintage Management
Upon her departure, Tatepo expressed her genuine appreciation for the collaborative efforts that went into producing a diverse list of books. She remarked, “Leading such a unique list and publishing so many beloved one-of-a-kind books in partnership with phenomenal writers, agents and creatives has been nothing short of joyous. I am forever grateful to the whip-smart colleagues and collaborators who have been part of the Square Peg story. After a most special six years at PRH, I will miss and cheer on everyone in equal measure.”
Hannah Telfer, Managing Director at Vintage, acknowledged Tatepo’s significant impact during her tenure, mentioning, “Marianne is a talented publisher and a brilliant colleague with a distinctive ability to identify new author talent and back it. I know all of us at Vintage will miss her entrepreneurial thinking and infectious energy: I thank her for everything she has brought to the division, and to Penguin Random House, and wish her every success for the future.”
